My friends and I had decided to surprise a friend of ours who had recently moved to the IOW and we booked The Havelock as it had great reviews and was recommended to us.We were not disappointed. The hotel was clean, well run and very friendly staff. It was the perfect location with stunning views and rooms had everything we needed. The added bonus of being able to have a little dip in the swimming pool in the late September sunshine was just the icing on the cake.As someone who is recently Gluten Free and I don’t drink diary, the staff were amazing at making sure my breakfast needs were met and I had everything I needed.I would 100% go back and recommend to all my family and friends!

We have stayed at this wonderful place more times than I care to count. It has truly become a home from home. It is lovely to arrive somewhere and be treated like old friends. Nothing is too much trouble and Paul and Vicky always want to know how they can make your stay better. Quite simply I cannot fault it and wouldn't stay anywhere else on the island. Location, breakfast facilities all 10/10 it gets better every year, see you next year!

Just spent the best 4 days in a wonderful hotel. Paul and Vicky were the hosts with the most! A lovely hotel with great staff and breakfast. The hotel comes with a nice pool and bar area. Very comfortable bed and a breathtaking sea view in our room. Nothing was too much trouble whilst staying at the Havelock. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone. Keep up the good work and we hope to return next season

Every member of staff pleasant, efficient and friendly. Good choice for breakfast. Really tasty sausages on the cooked breakfast! Would definitely recommend for a stay.

My mum and I stayed here for a short break. We were greeted by Daniel at check in who was very friendly and informative. Our rooms were nice, immaculately clean and very comfortable we both had sea views. There is a heated outdoor pool so bring your swimsuit!Breakfast was good a full choice of options and filter coffee which is a must for me!We only met Dave and he is lovely..very informative and a genuine nice guy. There is a lounge and bar area with a good selection of drinks available and you can sit outside on the small patio area at the front of the hotel too.Parking is available and the hotel is close to the seafront and Shanklin Village and town.I was really impressed with the sleek and responsive booking system and we booked our ferry crossing with the hotel which is much cheaper and hassle free. I would book directly with the hotel and would recommend the hotel to anyone who wants a genuinely nice hotel that’s clean and comfortable and run by lovely people.I hope we will be back :)))

Another lovely 10 day stay at The Havelock whilst working at The Isle of Wight Festival, made perfect by Ann and David’s wonderful hosting. Perfect breakfasts, with Ann’s phenomenal homemade jams, preserves and bread, started each day off with joy. And at the end of each working day some great chilled local ales and a chance to “chew the fat†with David. Thanks again for everything. All The Best, Fin.

A last minute booking which proved to be a good choice - in a quiet location with parking at front and rear of the hotel, great sea views from a private balcony with seating. The room was a good size and had everything you required and spotless shower room - did not use the outdoor pool but it looked good and was heated. Breakfast was first class from the service to the quality of all the food from the continential to the cooked which came out in quick time - would stop in this hotel again as it is well situated for the town and sea front

Hi there,We just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU for a lovely stay this week. The rooms were spotless and comfortable and the breakfasts amazing, once again! All of you were so accommodating and friendly – nothing seemed to be too much trouble.Diane really appreciated the ground floor room, so thank you for that.We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Havelock to anyone wanting to visit Shanklin. The hard work you put in for your open season definitely pays off, and you certainly deserve your down time when you get to it later in the year.Andrew and I are hoping to be able to return later in the year, and Adam is already talking about coming with us again in between terms next year when he is at university (if he has time in between his studies!)We wish you well for the rest of the season and look forward to seeing you again either later this year or in 2019.Thank you once again.Jennifer, Andrew, Diane and Adam. xx

As we had enjoyed ourselves staying at the Havelock last year we decided to go for another short break - unfortunately it was a short break as the hotel was full either side of our chosen dates. Once again the welcome and service provided by Dave, Anne and their staff was second to none. The hotel is kept exceptionally clean, the breakfast is delicious and the gardens are beautiful - what more can anyone want? We shall be returning and many thanks to you all for looking after us so well.

If you are looking for a Friendly Hotel in Shanklin on the I.o.W. look no further. We have been coming to The Havelock for some years now, and as soon as you walk through the door to reception, there is Dave or Ann to greet you. The rooms are always Clean & Tidy, a Nice Breakfast in the morning, then when you come back in the evening after a day out, Dave will be behind the Bar for a Chat & a Laugh. This has got to be 1 of The Best Hotels in Shanklin, if not on the I.o.W.

Just come back from a 3 night stay , the hotel is in a great location for the town and the sea front .The rooms are very clean with great big large bath towels that are made in to swans laid on the bed could not complain at anything and it was lovey to have tea making in the room , the only one thing missing would be some small packets of biscuits to go with them .Breakfast was very good, everything freshly cooked rather than sitting in silver tins like most other hotels seem to do now., it was lovely to sit and eat your breakfast looking at the garden .The owners Dave and Ann made you very welcome , and loved to sit and chat in the bar at night, nothing was to much trouble. When we go back to the island next year for the weekend, we will be staying there again as it was so friendly.

Wonderful stay at the Havelock. Room clean, tidy and adequate. Staff at breakfast wonderful and food well cooked and presented. Well sighted for town, buses and restaurants. ( dined at a different place every night)Two adverse points.Shower over the bath had no rubber mat or grab handles for those less steady on their feet. However would recommend this above average B & B to family and friends.

We chose The Havelock because 2 members of our party (2 couples) had special dietary requirements. It was so nice to have gluten free and veggie needs met with such ease at breakfast. The property is beautifully furnished, decorated and maintained. Our rooms were small, but had everything we needed. The lounge was welcoming and so nice to be able to have a night cap back at The Havelock after going out for dinner. I would unreservedly recommend The Havelock to anyone wanting a relaxed stay in Shanklin. Dave and Ann were perfect hosts.

Super, friendly hotel. Wonderful breakfast and spotlessly clean. Our best recommendation is that we would definitely use this hotel again.

A well appointed hotel conveniently locatedboth for the Old Village and the sea front. Very clean throughout, both the double sea view rooms were of a good size with large wardrobe and chest of drawers offering plenty of storage space. The en-suite bathrooms were compact but not cramped and had a modern shower cabinet (1x curved, 1x square) basin and toilet. In room tea, coffeeand hot chocolate provided with a generous supply of milk pots (so often not the case in most establishments!). A good cooked breakfast menu choice of full English or eggs various and cereals, croissants, continental breakfast and juices. Staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful and the feel of the place was peaceful and relaxing. Good value and would certainly recommend and stay here again. Would only have scored higher if this was located with uninterrupted view of the sea, butall in all not a deal breaker.

Lovely hotel, very good breakfast, comfortable bedroom a little snug but we had our own patio so not a problem really. Very well stocked bar. Only a short walk to the village & the beach, all together makes a lovely holiday base.

Me and my wife stayed here for 2 nights in August. It is a really nice and cozy place. The sea-view room we had booked was very good with a very pleasing sea view. The breakfast was excellent, my wife is vegetarian even then she enjoyed it. The croissants were excellent. Only one thing which we though can be improved is the pool should be a bit more heated, it was heated but still cold for swim use. Overall excellent hotel, nice location and good value for money.

Warmly welcomed on arrival. Plenty of information on the I.O.W. available Lovely hotel. Very close to the beach. Stayed in a double room which was spacious. Hair dryer was by a mirrored wardrobe door so didn't need the extension lead I take. Shower had plenty of hot water and was powerful. Bed linen was of good quality. Plentiful tea and coffee supplied. Didn't use the pool but it looked inviting, with seating around. Breakfast was excellent. Plenty of choice and good service. Car parking is available but can be a tight squeeze. All rooms are spotlessly clean, some are bigger than others but all of a high standard. Location is great, 5 minutes to Old Shanklin village itself and about 8 minutes to the beach area. A B&B with all the trimmings of an uptown hotel minus the excessive prices - even a swimming pool! First class food, first class hygiene standards and first class waitresses who served just about any combination offood you could want! We had an enjoyable stay at the Havelock; only criticisms would be that; i) our room was too hot overnight due to the good weather; ii) breakfast was delicious but an earlier start/wider time slot would have been more convenient.
Response
Dear Mr Deeprose.Thank you for your review, we're glad that you enjoyed your stay.In response to your criticisms, the weather was extremely warm and sunny during your stay and we do provide fans in the rooms, or they are available on request, lighter weight duvets are also available on request as mentioned in our room packs. Since we came to The Havelock we've insulated the loft and had cavity wall insulation put in where possible. We offer a full cooked breakfast from 8:30am - 9:30am and a continental breakfast from 7:30am - 8:30am on request as stated on our website at the time of booking and also in our room packs. As a B&B we are governed by strict food hygiene laws which tell us how long we are able to keep food hot and how long cold food can be kept in the dining room without being chilled. We abide by these regulations for the safety of our guests health. We have a 5 star kitchen rating, Environmental Health do regular spot checks and we are happy to work within their guidelines.Dave and I also get up at 6:30am every morning to start preparing breakfast for our guests, we often and usually go to bed at about midnight after the bar closes and we have locked up and closed down for the night. We survive for over 7 months on a maximum of six and a half hours sleep a night, we physically couldn't get up any earlier to prepare an earlier breakfast for everyone. We need adequate preparation time to be able to cook up to 45 breakfasts each morning.

We had a fantastic stay at the Havelock, we were made really welcome .The setting is fantastic near the old village part of Shanklin with great views .The gardens outside are lovely and inside is just as good with the rooms being decorated in a modern style with a lovely comfy bed and all you could need ..As for the breakfast in the morning..well superb is the only word , and as for the homemade marmalade and jams..wow..Unfortunately we didn't get time to use the outdoor heated pool, but it looked very inviting.I would recommend the Havelock to anyone looking for a great b&b on the island..everyone there was very friendly and helpful.

We checked in on Sunday the 8th of June for 4 nights and had a very enjoyable stay. Our room was at the front facing the sea and was quite large and very clean. There was a super king-sized bed which was very comfortable. We had plenty of storage space for our clothes which was rather too muchfor us. There was only one chair in the room and we had to ask for another which was immediately provided. There were facilities to make tea, coffee and drinking chocolate which wemade useof in the morning before breakfast which started from 8:30.The breakfast was excellent and had something to satisfy everyone's wishes. The full English was filling and and of high quality. They also had home made freshly baked bread which is something not to be missed. The ladies in the dining-room, Anne and Kirsty are very cheerful. This hotel has a swimming pool which we did not use as we wanted to visit other places on the island. There is a nice barwith comfortable sofas to sit in and relax with or without your drink. Dave is very talkative and Ann sometimes joins in.They are wonderful hosts and very welcoming. We shall tell our family and friends that this the place to stay at if they visit the IOW and will definitely be returning.

Hosts were excellent as was the staff and the food. Our balcony bedroom was the icing on the cake a very comfortable hotel. One down side in comparison to other hotels was the car park steep at the front and tight the back car park was flat but steep steps to the hotel and isolated. Would we come again yes we would.

We spent a lovely weekend in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight and stayed at The Havelock, the hotel was recommended,to us by friends and we were not disappointed. We had a lovely clean room with good shower facilities and a stunning view. Our hosts were extremely welcoming and the breakfast staff couldn't have done anymore to make us feel very welcome. The tea coffee making facilities were extremely well stock. One suggestion could be, a mirror on the wall at the end of the bed for drying hair would have helped rather than stand in front of the wardrobe doors. Also the Moorcroft honey jars as far too nice to use for everyday, but was a beautiful touch.5 stars

We visit the Isle of Wight every year to see my sister & brother-in-law and have stayed at many different hotels....some good and some bad...some cheap & some expensive...but we've never gone back to the same one...until now!!The Havelock is just perfect fo us.This time there were 10 of us and we took 5 rooms all of which were individually priced slap in the middle of the cheap and expensive ones and suited us all perfectly.Every room was wonderfully decorated and cared for with an excellent daily service. All had great views apart from the one to the side, albeit this was well made up for by an outside patio with a sea view and table & chairs. The pool area is superb, albeit the poor weather meant only one short dip was enjoyed by the youngest! Breakfast was superb each of the 4 mornings of our stay and the staff and owners were just the perfect hosts.George even went out and purchased a stock of Chilean Sauvignon Blanc for the ladies and my favourite real ales and we sat out until late every evening on the front patio. The hotel is located within a 5 minute walk to the old village and a 2 minute drive into the main town shopping area.Shanklin is, of course, a wonderful seaside resort and the Esplanade boasts several excellent restuarants....you must try The Reef for a great big meal and Legends (next door) for the "Rock Experience" where you cook your own meal at the table on a hot volcanic stone!!Hungry men.....have the mixed grill kebabs and ladies....the salmon is to die for!!I cant help thinking we will never stay anywhere else again on the Island...we have already reserved one of the two front facing rooms with the balcony for next year!!

Really lovely little B&B, ideal location within easy distance of the beach and a number of good restaurants, very friendly atmosphere and clean and comfortable accommodation. Good bed, great shower and shower products, plenty of cupboard space and everything you could wish for breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and only regret is that we didn't get to use the pool on account of the not so summery weather! But it looked inviting nevertheless. So much to do on the IOW whether beach or sightseeing or just taking in the countryside and lovely views, it's a great place to take a short break and we found it easy to slow down the pace of life within a matter of hours

Stayed overnight as had some work to do on the Isle of Wight.Very nicely run by Dave and Ann and they are very warm and welcoming. The rooms and hotel are impeccable.Full English breakfast is made to order (even made the egg just as I requested which was over easy!) - perfect.A lot of cold breakfast items are also available and very tasty as all the ingredients appeared organic and fresh.Didn't get to use the pool as it was closed this time of season. The hotel is located quite close to the beach (although takes about 10-15 mins to walk down as it is on the cliff.)A slight down-side was that the bed was quite small for me (single-sized) as I am over 6'1".It was very comfortable, though.Parking is available on-site.I would recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again especially as the price was so competitive.

As we were visiting family we didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel and it was out of season so the pool wasn't available. But the room was quiet and comfortable, the sea view did look out to sea,tea coffee etc were plentiful and the bathroom facilities as you would expect. Breakfast was served in a good sized room with out acoustic issues so you can talk without feeling like you're annoying other guests and vice versa. Parking was a bit tight out front, the spaces out back were a better option. My only complaint would be the breakfast sausage but the rest of the breakfast more than made up for it.
Response
Dear Mr RyanThank you for your review, we're always happy to receive feedback. Unfortunately, parking in most of Shanklin hotels/B&B's is tight, but there's also free on street parking locally too. We'd be very interested for your comments on the breakfast sausages, they're made by our local butcher in Shanklin and we do try to keep to local produce to keep employment on the island. This is their standard breakfast sausage that they supply to many of the local hotels. We look forward to hearing from you. Dave & Ann

Without a doubt I would recommend the Havelock as an excellent place to stay in Shanklin. The Hotel is in excellent order with clean, bright and tastefully decorated rooms, with good cotton linen and comfortable beds. The breakfast choice is good and you must try Mrs Bunny's home made bread and your cooked items are served promptly and hot by efficient and friendly staff. Everything is good quality including the coffee. The lounge/bar is cosy comfortable and friendly with a good choice of snacks available until 5pm.On a rainy day an excellent place to curl up with a book or try solving the mind boggling choice of puzzles. The Havelock is well situated in Shanklin, with the shops, the Old Village, The Chine and Seafront in easy walking distance. Also there is a very good range of eating places nearby from tea rooms, pubs and restaurants. Mr and Mrs Bunny run an excellent establishment and whilst being professional in the running of their hotel are also extremely friendly and helpful as are their staff.Would definitely book again if we were to stay in Shanklin in the future.

Breakfasts are worth waiting for, every conceivable taste is catered for, with a large choice of homemade fare, just like my mother used to make. I initially booked into a B&B in Cowes for 3 nights, but only after 1 night we had to contact Havelock where I had stayed before because the place in Cowes had damp smell and cramped. Just didn't feel comfortable.Ann and David @ Havlock were good enough to accomodate us for one night and also make arrangement for us for the 2nd night next door.At Havelock, the place is very clean, rooms are nice and bright, bedding, shower, other bits in the room are all clean.Breakfast hall is moderate size to suit the size of the hotel with plenty of choice to cater for all ages and tastes. To top it up, a warm welcome by Ann and David. As I can not pinpoint a singe minus point, I would reccomend "Havelock" to anyone.Ch.Mohammed Anwar

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at The Havelock. We had a lovely view of the sea from our room and found it tastefully decorated with a good bathroom. The home made bread and fresh fruit salad is a definite must at breakfast. Thehotel itself is clean and spotless, however just a friendly word from the owners or the staff at breakfast would have made it a bit more welcoming. We only spoke to the owners at the beginning and then never saw them for the rest of the holiday. However, some guests might like this approach. We would recommend the hotel as it is central to all the restaurants and the beach.

Ann needs to sell the bread and her tasty jams though. They're amazing. On arrival we were well looked after and fully informed of what the hotel and Shanklin had to offer, and during our stay the owners could not do enough for our comfort with little extra's such as a fan to keeps us cool during the night during what was a scorching week offered I add with no added charge. Shanklin, Sandown and Ventnor all lived up to expectation and the tourist destinations such as Osbourne House were excellent. We had a really good time and will return.BUT - One negative about writing this review is The Travelling As box, which is a requirement to fill in to proceed. I and my wife Sharon are a Married Couple! no where to be found on the drop down menu - single, male, female, group, business traveller, family, young or mature couples but no married couples, this PC exclusion is offensive to me as we chose this hotel and destination to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary, Discrimination in any form is not acceptable and to feel as a married couple we do not count enough to be included or recognised as an entity may well inform our decision on where to stay next time we visit the Isle of Wight

We had a very comfortable room, a warm welcome and the breakfasts were delicious with a wide choice of qulity dishes on offer. We were a bit bothered to find that several tables at breakfast had been "reserved" - usually the seats near the window - presumably to favour regular visitors. Also the parking area were very tight and at the back we had to double park which was rather inconvenient.

The breakfast is excellent with a self-service buffet for cerials, juice and toast etc but the "main" breakfast is chosen from a menu and served at your table. We didn't use the heated pool but the pool area with sunbeds is quite attractive. The Havelock is nicely situated with only a few minutes walk down to the beach and also only a short walk to Shanklin Old Village with its good selection of pubs and restaurants. We would certainly stay again and would again choose room 10 which has its own patio area and gets the sun all day.

The Havelock is everything a Hotel should beIt is spotlessly clean and the rooms are welcoming and with individual decor .David and Ann obviously love their work as nothing is too much trouble for them and their breakfast with home made jam and chutneys set me up for the hard days of golf aheadThe swimming pool and gardens are well kept and thus gem is well worth a visit to refuel your tank and meander around Old ShanklinThank you for a very enjoyable visit

Shanklin is a fantastic base for your stay and offers many good resterants for your evening meal.Pendletons in the old villiage was well above exellent.A few drinks back at Havelock after dinner really made our stay 5 star.Trevor BrameSuffolk.

Thank you for providing such excellent facilities. Nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. We had what I would suppose is one of the smaller rooms, but the booking was, perhaps, a little late and the choice was gone. Very pleasant staff though. I would certainly recommend. The only problem could be the "tight" parking arrangement.

We have just returned from a very enjoyable stay at The Havelock. The breakfast was great, the staff friendly and the owners were great and went out of their way to help over the ferry booking. The hotel is also very well placed for town and beach.

Our second stay at the Havelock and as last time we were made to feel most welcome by hosts Dave and Anne. The enhancements they have made to the bedrooms and dining room over the winter have made what was already a good hotel even better. Breakfasts are excellent in both quantity and quality and they well deserve the award they have achieved for them this year. Although the weather wasn't the best during our stay the pool was well heated and had I been a little braver Im sure I would have enjoyed a dip. Perfectly located for the beach and old village which are just 5 minutes walk away. Bus and train stations about 10 minutes walk away with good transport links to all the island attractions. If you like good service by friendly well turned out staff who go out of their way to help you then give the Havelock a try, Im sure you wont be disappointed, we certainly weren't. Thank you.

We were a group of 13 cyclists staying at The Havelock for a weekend. The owners could not have been more helpful. The rooms were very clean and all had baths. Breakfast was excellent. I would have no hesitation at recommending this hotel as very good value for money and it has an excellently maintained swimming pool.

We stayed for 3 nights at The Havelock, and have enjoyed it so much we have already booked for a further 3 days in September. The hotel is spotlessly clean in every room. The breakfast offers a large choice and is of exceptional quality and quantity. The waitresses and waiters at breakfast are friendly and welcoming.Probably best of all is the welcome we got from Ann and David Bunney. We are looking forward to our return visit.

Our stay of four days in June (one double and one single room) was very pleasant. Our booking request (including ferry) was very well attended to,and our arrival smooth.Parking was tight, but easy to achieve. The rooms were excellent, clean, and well supplied. The breakfast room and the lounge/bar were in very good order, and the breakfast itself was varied and excellent. The bar was reasonably well stocked and comfortable, and there were plenty of evening restaurants within walking distance. We would recommend anyone wishing to visit the area for B&B,to make the Havelock their first booking choice.

We were very pleasantly surprised by the Havelock. It is in an excellent, yet quiet, location close both to the sea and to a range of charming shops and restaurants in the Shanklin old town. We were particularly impressed with the warmth of the welcome we received from one of the hotel owners, and we concluded that, should we ever venture into the hotel business, this would be a hard act to follow. Overall, the Havelock tries very hard to please, and succeeds in doing so!

A truly unforgetable few days. Nothing was too much trouble. Everything was handled as one would expect of a 4 star establishment. Breakfasts were something extra. The simple touch of hot home-made bread and home-made jams every morning was the icing on the cake. It brought memories flooding back of my mother and my childhood. Seriously looking forward to returning in September with my wife. Thank you Dave, Ann and the breakfast girls.

Dave and Ann were delightful and Dave's breakfast is complimented by Ann's Jam selection. The hotel staff are very attentive and polite. It's the first time I've been asked whether I was ready for my breakfast at a hotel rather than have it dumped in front of me. 'The Havelock' is one of those things we sometimes find in life: something that 'fits the bill', so why waste time in looking around for something else of the same sort? Welcoming; always spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable; beds that do not disappoint and guarantee a good nights rest; breakfasts that are mini feasts, plus a day-time light food selection if required. Add to that the close proximity of the town and it's varied food outlets, it is the perfect place for a short - or longer - stay on the island. Very warm, friendly atmosphere, very comfortable room and helpful in providing maps, walks etc. We were made to feel very welcome. Breakfast was the best I have had in any hotel and could even supply as good in a vegetarian option. Comfortable lounge area with a range of excellent condition games to play including cribbage and chess. Will definitely recommend.Excellent value for money.

Every one has said what a great place to stay and what lovely staff, especially in the breakfast room. Everyone would stay here again. (if only to complete one of the puzzles in the lounge!) Thanks for a great weekend.

Nifty hotel! Right next to the Chine, the Fisherman's Cottage pub, the Old Village and the beach. Wonderful sea view if you get a room with a balcony. Do walk down the Chine, and do visit the Fisherman's Cottage, possibly the best pub in England, with great food. Shanklin's Old Village is close; it's nice, but not extensive. If you walk to the Havelock from the train station, take Regent Street and Alexandra Road. Saves time and hills. Great hotel!

A well organised hotel, the breakfast room staff were excellent, they had obviously been well trained. The rooms were rather small, but well appointed with adequate amenities. The owners were friendly and keen to oblige. The onething I would advise to anyone wishing to visit the IOW is to book their ferry crossing through the hotel, it cost me £108 return for the crossing, booked through an agency.Other than that, a very pleasant visit.

The Havelock in Shanklin was our base for a brief stay on the Isle of Wight, and it was all all thoroughly enjoyable. The island is always worth a visit, with its many attractions and lovely countryside, but it's even better when you stay somewhere as welcoming as the Havelock. The proprietors pride in their hotel is obvious and it's what makes it what it is - a truly wondeful place.

This was our 5th visit in 6 years to this hotel. We love the island and wouldn't stay anywhere else. It is well situated for the old part of the town. It is clean, the food is very good and the management are very welcoming. The only downside is that at busy times the parking can be a bit tricky in the front car park but I leave that to my husband, he has it down to a fine art. We look forward to our next visit.

The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Breakfast was very good. The hotel was in a great position for the sea and the town. The heated pool was a real plus. Our room (12) was too hot - this was obvious because there was a standalone aircon unit in there as well as the ceiling fan but this did make the night a bit uncomortable. Also the bathroom was small and a little bit challenging. We would not hesitate to recommend the hotel and use it again when back on the island.David Barnes (partner of Avril)

We stayed at this hotel for 11 nights (12-23/8/12)and had such a brilliant time here. Food excellent, (esp Anne's home-baked bread - to die for!), boiled eggs with soldiers(!) ooh yes, full English, all served by the most friendliest and polite staff. The hotel itself is absolutely spotless; cleanliness is obviously high on the agenda here! Woke up each morning looking out to sea (Room 22; stylishly decorated), couldn't have asked for much more. Nothing was too much trouble. We were blessed with sunny climes most of the week and certainly made good use of the pool and loungers. We don't normally make use of the hotel bar much but with Dave serving and regaling us with his tales and humour we were there most nights. Puzzles left out on the bar-top kept me busy too! Managed 3 (with a bit of help of Dave ;). There were quite a few there who have been going to the Havelock time and time again, testament to its popularity. Be sure to book, you won't be disappointed!

We recently stayed at the Havelock Hotel for our 30th Wedding Anniversary. Ann and David were very friendly and very obliging. Ann even went to the trouble to go and buy a gift on behalf of my daughter to leave in our room as a surprise for our Anniversary. The Hotel is excellent. Very efficient and friendly staff. The Hotel was spotlessly clean and the breakfast room was very pleasant. The beds and bedding were so comfy and the room very pleasant overlooking the sea. The swimming pool is warm and welcoming, you could almost think you are in Spain when relaxing by the pool and palm trees. The breakfast was amazing with a lovely selection to choose from, I was spoilt for choice. The vicinity of the Hotel is perfect within minutes walk to the sea and shops. Very pretty quaint Thatched roofed local pubs and shops. I would certainly recommend The Havelock. You will not be dissapointed.

Great hosts Ann & Dave and clean and comfortable rooms with the benefit of a lovely outdoor pool for the sunny days. We relaxed with a drink around the pool on a couple of our afternoons before taking the short walk to the town or prom for dinner in one of the many retaurants around. We received a very nice welcome at the havelock. The hotel is close to the beach, just down the hill, then the town is in the other direction. We got allocated the room with a balcony and it was lovely for the cool breeze. The swimming pool is a nice little extra where we didn't expect it, it's warmer than the sea!!!!!Overall very nice
Response
Thank you for your review, just to let you know that the room you had was our standard double room with en-suite and patio. The Balcony rooms are on the front of the building and are large rooms with king size beds, en-suite and large balconies with sea views, they are available at additional cost.

Very pretty and confortable, great customer service. Tv and awesome bathroom facilities in the with tea and coffee an hot chocholate. My only crticisms: people were too civilised for me, felt a tad out of place.

Beautiful hotel located in an excellent part of Shanklin with easy access to the beach and town within 5 minutes. the hotel is spotless and staff so friendly you feel like one of the family, the breakfast is award winning and pool is beautiful, well worth a stay for a couple of nights or for a couple of weeks, i cant praise them enough.

I am happy to say that our stay at The Havelock was perfect, we were greeted warmly and given all the relevant information we needed, from parking to info on how to get to the town centre. The rooms were lovely, nicely decorated and clean. i wouldn't hesitate to stay here again and happy to recommend it. Thankyou.

Very comfortable beds, lovely breakfast, great sea views and very welcoming owners.Central to all the attractions. Surprisingly warm outdoor pool (used on a rainy day!).Would highly recomend this hotel.

This B&B Hotel shines in many ways - the welcome was warm, the breakfasts are superb, the pool area is lovely, the housekeeping could not be faulted and the staff have been very well trained. Therefore it is rather disappointing that the comfortable lounge overlooking a well-manicured garden was spoilt with the rather loud, ever-on babble of Radio 2 making quiet reading almost impossible.

We had a lovely stay. Very clean room. Friendly and helpful owners and staff. Owners helped us book ferry. Location is great, a short stroll into Old Shanklin. We used the heated pool which was nice too. Wouldn't hesitate to return.

We only stayed 5 days but every moment spent in the Havelock was enjoyable. The accomodation was clean and modern. Breakfast was well cooked and plenty of choice. Dave & Ann, the owners, were good company and could not do enough for us. The staff were all friendly and polite. In all, we consider this hotel to be everything it says it is and more - A winner and in a great location. We would definately stay again.

A georgous hotel that is excellent value of money. The rooms were spotlessly clean, the breakfast was lovely and the staff, including the owners, were friendly, efficient and so helpful. This is the fourth or fifth time we have stayed at this hotel and it always manages to maintain it's incredibly high standards.

We recieved the warmest of welcomes from our hosts Dave and Anne. This is a lovely hotel in a good location for the village and the sea front. We chose a sea view room and were not disappointed, warm and cosy, with en-suite facilities,TV and tea/coffee making etc. Breakfast was well worth getting up for with the usual buffet options and a full English which was perfectly presented and served by the polite and efficient staff. There is a good mix of clientel and the bar lounge is a good place for a night cap(or two). If your looking to stay in Shanklin then The Havelock should be the first place to check for availability. We hope to return in the not too distant future...

The service and food at The Havelock was fantastic. I was a bit disappointed that the room with a balcony, turned out to be a room with a patio overlooking the carpark, plus sea view.
Response
Dear Mr WeetmanThank you for your review, however your booking was for a double room with en-suite (Room 10) and a double room with en-suite and sea views (Room 21) made through Booking.com. Our balcony rooms are Rooms 7 & 8 and comprise a king size bed, a single bed, en-suite and balcony and are located on the front of the building. They are bookable only through our own website and are an additional £10.00 per person per night. Room 10 with patio is classed as a standard double room with en-suite, it isn't advertised as a sea view room.

This is our third visit to The Havelock and we will not consider staying anywhere else. The owners are lovely, staff are friendly and efficient, rooms are comfortable with fabulous views and the breakfasts are amazing. The bar is perfect for relaxing in and the pool is a real sun-trap. The location could not be better as it is minutes from the town centre and the beach. In short, we love it and will be back again soon. Thanks for another wonderful stay.

In the words of Arnie in Terminator - "I'll be back". Lovely hotel with superb friendly staff. Breakfast was fantastic every morning with a beautiful selection of fresh food on offer. The room we had was comfortable with one of those showers that peels a layer of skin off you. A two minute walk brought you either to the village or the beach, depending which way you turned so a more central yet quiet location you couldn't get.

Lovely clean and attractive hotel with comfy well stocked lounge, handy location both for the seafront and old village. Good hosts and excellent staff, enjoyed the heated pool and fab breakfasts(only complaint was allowing certain guests to book the tables by the window in advance doesn't give anyone else a chance).Thank you for the upgrade to a seaview room and for the loan of the walks booklet.

Being a single traveller, I have found from experience you nirmally get stuck in some pokey little room at the back with no views. Not so with the Havelock, the single room was very roomy, very modern and had a beautifuly view overlooking the gardens and the sea.Service was esxcellent and the breakfasts catered for every taste possible.I would certainly reccomend this hotel

I travelled with my wife and her mother to Isle of WIght. Mother -in - law is 87 and we thought she would enjoy going back to IOW. We had not been before. The Havelock was very comfortable, clan and in a good location - just 10 minutes walk into the centre of SHanklin. The breakfasts were superb and the staff were excellent. We thought the hotel was excellent value, we all enjoyed our stay and would have no hesitation returning there again!

Very pleasant stay.Room was good, especially with the attaching room which enabled one to put down one's cases, thereby freeing up the main room.Breakfast was very good and the service was excellent! We would definitely use the Havelock again for a longer stay.

I have just returned from a four night stay at The Havelock, with my daughter. Our only negative comment is that we couldn't stay longer. What a perfectly lovely guest house. We were greeted warmly by Mr. and Mrs. Bunney and looked after extremely well by all their friendly staff. I can honestly say I have never stayed in such a wonderfully clean B+B before either. Our bedrooms were beautifully furnished, my daughter's having its own private terrace overlooking the sea. However, when I saw my single room, which was incredibly comfortable and tastefully decorated, I didn't feel cheated at all. The breakfasts were delicious, with plenty to choose from, all served by pleasant staff, who were always on hand to make sure everything went smoothly.A totally wonderful place to stay and, to top it all, a perfect location too. It took us, at the very most, five minutes to walk down to the beach and five minutes, in the opposite direction, to walk into the beautiful old village.I would recommend this guest house to absolutely anyone, without a moments hesitation. When visiting Shanklin again, we know exactly where we will be staying.
